Good morning to all those who are waiting for the weekend! I have a cool plan for you for the next one: a tested trip on the road across England…part of England!

First of all find your private jet (your small and cheap car!) for example on www.rent.it and begin at home your training in “think and act conversely”…you must drive on the left! Actually it’s more frightening to imagine it than do it, so don’t worry! Then obviously find the right company: one who will drive most of the time, one who will prepare the perfect and detailed itinerary (also the longest ever), one who will sleep in the car and one who will pay attention that the driver does not forget to be on the left English streets! Finally, make sure the phone is charged and Google maps is working!

Now you’re ready to leave!

As first destination go to Stonehenge where you will feel like in an history book. It’s better booking tickets online in advance in order to avoid queue. Take your free audioguide! Don’t be disappointed if you can’t get close to the rocks, this is possible only during the summer solstice when in the night you can sleep (and drink!) between the rocks! Now make a brief stop at Salisbury to have a look at the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom, the spire of the nice gothic Salisbury cathedral! [Stonehenge -> Salisbury: 9.6 miles, 18 min]

Proceed towards Bath. You can leave your car in the (not free) car park at the entry of the city and begin your cute nice wandering in the pretty streets of Bath. Obviously you could have a look inside the Roman Bath (price 14 £ with free audio tours,www.romanbaths.co.uk) and then go near the river, the Pulteney Bridge and the delicious garden where if you’re lucky you will find the orchestra playing! Bath is also the place in which writer Jane Austen lived for some years and if you’re interested in it you could visit the Jane Austen centre (I can’t guarantee for it, I haven’t been!). Complete your walking tour reaching the two buildings Royal Crescent and the Circus and eating a really good bun at Sally Lunn’s House, one of the oldest houses in Bath. Here there is a small kitchen museum considered the original bakery of the young Huguenot refugee  Solange Luyon baker who created the first Bath bun, a regional speciality now known the world over (really good and big!). [Salisbury ->Bath : 39.1 miles, 1 h 1 min]

Let’s now complete your trip travelling to the Costwolds, a beautiful luxuriant verdant rural landscape containing stone-built villages, historical towns, little rivers, and stately homes and gardens. Some of the nicest villages are Bibury,  Bourton on the water and Burford. I don’t want to spend too words for these villages…they are just outstanding and fairytale, a must see! [Bath -> Bibury : 43.1 miles, 1 h 10 min; Bibury -> Burford : 11.4 miles, 21 min; Bourton on the water -> Burford : 9.8 miles, 17 min; Burford -> London : 73.9 miles, 1 h 54 min]

Dreaming your next day-out, you must work now! So hold on and…enjoy your breakfast!

Oh, I have forgotten: it’s a must do the dance of “not-rain” the day before…you’re in England!

 

Buongiorno a tutti coloro che sono in attesa del weekend…ho un piano proprio per te: un testato viaggio on the road lungo l’ Inghilterra…parte dell’Inghilterra!

Per prima cosa reperisci il tuo jet privato (la tua piccola ed economica auto!) ad esempio su http://www.rent.it ed inizia il tuo allenamento nel “pensare ed agire al contrario”…dovrai guidare a sinistra! In realta’ e’ piu’ spaventoso imaginarlo che farlo,quindi non preoccuparti! Poi ovviamente trova i giusti compagni di viaggio: chi guidera’ per la maggior parte del tempo, chi preparera’ il perfetto e dettagliato itinerario (ed anche il più lungo mai visto), chi dormira’ in macchina e chi porra’ attenzione a che l’autista non dimentichi di guidare nelle “sinistre” strade inglesi! Accertati che il tuo cellulare sia carico e che Google maps funzioni a dovere!

Perfetto, sei pronto per partire!

La prima meta e’ Stonehenge, dove avrai la sensazione di trovarti in un libro di storia. Ti conviene prenotare i biglietti in anticipo online in modo da evitare la fila. L’audioguida e’ compresa quindi richiedila. Non rimanere deluso del non poter toccare le rocce ne’ avvicinarti del tutto ad esse; questo e’ possibile solo durante il solstizio d’estate quando puoi addirittura dormire (e bere) tra di esse! [London -> Stonehenge: 88.2 miles, 1 h 42 min]

Concediti poi una breve sosta a Salinsbury per dare uno sguardo alla cattedrale con la piu’ alta guglia del Regno Unito. L’architettura gotica ti stupira’! [Stonehenge -> Salisbury: 9.6 miles, 18 min]

Procedi ora verso Bath. Puoi lasciare la macchina nel parcheggio (non gratuito) all’ingresso della cittadina ed iniziare il tuo girovagare per le sue deliziose stradine. Ovviamente puoi dare uno sguardo alle Terme Romane (prezzo 14 £ comprensivo di audio tour, www.romanbaths.co.uk) e poi dirigerti verso il fiume, il Pulteney Bridge e lo splendido giardino dove se sei fortunato troverai l’orchestra che suona! Bath e’ anche il luogo in cui la scrittrice Jane Austen visse per alcuni anni e, se ti interessa l’argomento, puoi visitare il Jane Austen Centre (non posso garantire pero’ per questo, giacche’ l’ho bypassato!). Completa il tuo tour raggiungendo due costruzioni, il Royal Crescent ed il Circus,  e mangiando una brioche (bun) davvero buona alla Sally Lunn’s House, una delle case piu’ vecchie di Bath. Qui troverai la piccola cucina-museo considerata l’originale forno della panettiera rifugiata ugonotta Solange Luyon che creo’ il primo bun di Bath, una specialita’ regionale ora conosciuta in tutto il mondo (molto buono e grande!). [Salisbury ->Bath : 39.1 miles, 1 h 1 min]

Completa il tuo viaggio dirigendoti verso le Costwolds, un rigoglioso verdeggiante paesaggio rurale con piccoli villaggi in pietra, citta’ storiche, fiumiciattoli ed imponenti case e giardini.
